Will there be any changes for the Tiguan in 2018?

What’s new for the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan?

The Tiguan has been impressing people with its design, style, and capability since it first debuted as the first VW crossover in America. With the upcoming VW Atlas crossover slotting in just above the Tiguan, people have been wondering if there are any changes for the Tiguan in the works. Well there is, and it’s coming in 2018. Let’s talk about what’s new for the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan and help quell your curiosity.

New Tiguan architecture

For the 2018 model year, the Tiguan is getting a whole new look and a whole new architecture. It will be based on the Volkswagen Modular Transverse Matrix architecture, or MQB. This is the same architecture that will be employed in the 2018 VW Atlas that is set to debut very soon.

That new architecture means a longer wheelbase and a longer body for the iconic Tiguan in 2018. With 10.7 inches added to the overall length of this crossover, you will get an increase in cargo space of 57%. That extra space also means that the Tiguan can now include a third row seating option on some trim levels.

Just because the Tiguan is getting bigger doesn’t mean it’s getting bulkier and less useful. The 2018 Tiguan will have a 26-degree approach angle for off-roading and the rear tailgate height will be lower than the previous model making it easier to load and unload.

The Tiguan can still put power to all four wheels too with the optional 4MOTION all-wheel drive system with Active Control. This powerful drivetrain provides four selectable modes so that you can always find the right level of AWD for your driving situation and your style.
