A Comparison of the Differences Between the 2022 Volkswagen Taos and 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan

If you’re a fan of the Volkswagen brand, you’ll have heard about the incoming Volkswagen ID.4 and Taos models. Though the ID.4 is unique on its own right, is there more we know about the VW Taos? For one, it will be in a similar class with the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan. But what’s the difference between the two? At Neftin Volkswagen, we compare the two below:

2022 Volkswagen Taos Is Smaller than the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan

As a whole, the 2022 Volkswagen Taos is geared to act as a second, smaller compact crossover alongside the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan. This means that while they both rest in a similar category, those interested can find the subcompact crossover option in the VW Taos.  Being a smaller model, it will have 28.1 cubic feet of cargo space behind its rear seat compared to the VW Tiguan model’s 37.6 cubic feet. As a whole, the VW Taos is set to compete against other subcompact models, such as the Mazda CX-30 and Honda HR-V. Both models will receive the new MIB®3 Infotainment System, as many 2021 models are able to be equipped with the feature.

Another major difference between the 2022 VW Taos and 2021 VW Tiguan comes in the engines. Both offer a single engine option, though the 2021 VW Tiguan provides more power. Armed with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, each model received 184 horsepower and 221 ft-lbs of torque. Meanwhile, the 2021 VW Taos will offer a new 1.5-liter turbocharged option. While we don’t know the exact fuel economy rates, it will offer 158 horsepower – slightly more than other standard engines in subcompact crossovers. Both models can be equipped with 4Motion® All-wheel Drive while the Taos will have two automatic transmission options.
