2016 VW Golf R400 Engine Specs and US Release Date

Could the High Performance Golf R400 Concept Be Produced in the US? We Explore the Rumors

2016 VW Golf R400 Engine Specs and US Release Date

The reveal of the Golf R400 in 2014 was not the first time we got excited about a concept car from Volkswagen. But usually when it comes to these types of concept vehicles, the thrill soon wears off and turns to disappointment as we come to the realization that the model will never be available in our showroom. The Golf R400 may be different, though, and excitement over potential information regarding the 2016 VW Golf R400 engine specs and US release date has us convinced enough to share this news with you.

First things first: what is the Golf R400 and why do we care? The R400 was a concept model revealed in 2014 that easily excited Volkswagen and performance-car fans alike. The Golf model family is no stranger to high performance capabilities, as evidenced by the Golf GTI. But the Golf R400 engine specs had many of us giddy due to its power output of 400 PS (roughly 394 horsepower), hence the number 400 in the model name, and 332 lb.-ft. of torque.

The Golf R400 can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.9 seconds and maxes out at a top speed of 174 mph. For maximum performance and stability, the concept model has 4MOTION all-wheel drive. It also features sport suspension from the production model Golf R and 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. It is still unclear whether a production model would retain these same specs and features, but if we had to guess, we wouldn’t expect too many changes.

2016 Volkswagen Golf R400 US Release Date and Availability

Though it sounds like we may eventually see a production model of the Golf R400, uncertainty remains over its future availability in the U.S. Rumors have us remaining confident that we will one day be able to get behind the wheel of the R400, with guesses as to its release date ranging from 2016 through 2018 (we remain optimistic with 2016), but rumors are only rumors. We eagerly await any official word from Volkswagen, and should it arrive, you can learn about it right here.

We are remaining hopeful with this one, however, and we will update you with any future confirmation of both the 2016 VW Golf R400 engine specs and US release date information. In the meantime, read up on more Volkswagen news from Neftin Volkswagen.
