2016 Volkswagen Beetle Design Features
Volkswagen has recently revealed that it will be producing a version of the Beetle Dune concept car we saw a while back. This vehicle delivers an off-road feel and look to the modern Beetle, and we sure can’t wait to get behind the wheel. Though the model retains many of the same specs as the current Beetle and Beetle Convertible models, including the 170-horsepower 1.8-liter engine, the 2016 Volkswagen Beetle design features have us comparing it less to the modern-day Beetle and more to the classic Baja Bug.
In fact, Volkswagen has stated that the Beetle Dune was actually inspired by the Baja Bugs of the past. This new Dune design will enter VW’s lineup as a new trim for the Beetle, offering something that appears a little more rugged.
2016 VW Beetle Design Changes
Go ahead and click on some of the photos to see the new Beetle Dune’s design for yourself. There are, however, a few significant design changes that are worth pointing out.
One of the subtle design changes that Beetle fans may not pick up on at first glance is that the Dune actually sits a little wider and a little taller. For the Beetle Dune, VW engineers have raised the ride height by 0.4 inches and widened the track by 0.6 inches. It may be a subtle change, but it goes a long way in completing the Beetle Dune’s off-road stance.
In addition to looking rugged, the 2016 Beetle Dune has a sporty quality to it thanks in part to a new front bumper design that includes a large central air intake and honeycomb vents enveloping the vehicle’s foglights. In the rear, the Dune has standard LED taillights, a large spoiler, and a new bumper design combining matte black and aluminum elements.
Inside, driver’s will find many of the same features in current Beetle models, including a touchscreen infotainment system. Some more subtle features include orange stitching on the seats and a multifunction steering wheel.
2016 VW Beetle Dune Color Options
Though the Beetle Dune will be offered in familiar colors of Pure White and Deep Black Pearl, drivers can also expect to see a brand new paint color with the model. The new color is known as Sandstorm Yellow, and Beetle Dune’s painted in this exterior color will also have matching body color upper door trims and dashpads.
Drivers can expect to see these 2016 Volkswagen Beetle Dune design features in person once the model begins arriving in dealerships. The coupe model will release in the first quarter of 2016, while the convertible variant won’t arrive until the third quarter of 2016.
