Volkswagen vehicles are world-renowned for their innovation, efficiency and smart performance on the road, and the major catalyst for this strength is the oil that lies inside. Today we’ll be showing you how to check the oil in a Volkswagen vehicle so you can have a better idea of where you stand!
How do I check the oil in my Volkswagen?
Most Volkswagen vehicles will come standard with an oil gauge that can give you a general idea of how much you’re working with. However, if you’re curious to learn how to check your oil for yourself, it’s easy! Here are some quick steps:
- Your oil dipstick should be located near your engine block and cylinders, usually with a yellow or red handle. Take it out of its holster.
- Find a rag or cloth to wipe away the oil that has collected on your dipstick. Place it back inside your engine.
- Remove your dipstick again and check out how much oil remains on your dipstick.
By now you should notice that your dipstick has grooves at its opposite end that act as a gauge. If you don’t see much oil on your dipstick you’re running low, and should consider getting your oil swapped as soon as you can.
How often should my Volkswagen vehicle be getting an oil change?
Due to significant advancements in oil technology, synthetic materials have grown to dominate the market if you’re in search of the perfect engine lubricant. As opposed to older types of oil (and engines) that would break down more quickly, synthetic oils are able to keep you running stronger for longer. So, instead of the commonly accepted 3,000 mile interval, with today’s technology your Volkswagen model can run for up to 6,000-8,000 miles before you need to bring it in!
