Will Volkswagen Produce a New Convertible Crossover SUV?
The reveal of VW’s T-Cross Breeze concept at the Geneva Motor Show have many of us wondering if Volkswagen will produce a new convertible crossover SUV. It’s certainly fun to think about, but could it really happen?
Before we try to answer that question, let us quickly explain what the T-Cross Breeze is for those unfamiliar with it. The reason we, and many in the automotive world, are talking about a convertible SUV is because that’s exactly what the T-Cross Breeze is. The vehicle’s soft-top roof can retract, putting the “breeze” into the T-Cross Breeze’s name. The model comes equipped with a 1.0-liter TSI turbocharged engine delivering 109 horsepower and 129 lb-ft of torque, and managing 47 mpg, while weighing an extremely light 2,756 lbs.

Volkswagen T-Cross Breeze Concept Release Date
Now, normally we wouldn’t spend much time considering a potential release date for a concept model, but there are a few things that have many intrigued. For one, the Chairman of the Board of Management Volkswagen Brand, Dr. Herbert Diess, had this to say:
“At the moment the T-Cross Breeze is purely a concept, but we can well imaging putting such a convertible on the market as a production model.”
That’s about as close to a confirmation as we might come for a concept vehicle. In addition to that, however, Volkswagen has revealed the T-Roc concept in the past, which is also an SUV model that has a partially removable roof.
But unfortunately, for now, there is no official release date or news to report. That being said, we do know that the T-Cross Breeze is a preview of a new SUV model series for Volkswagen, which includes a new Tiguan, a new midsize SUV for the US and China, a new Touareg, a new SUV similar to the T-Roc in the Golf class and something like the T-Cross Breeze with a size similar to the European Polo.
So while it does seem an almost certainty that Volkswagen will produce a new convertible crossover SUV like the T-Cross Breeze, with the convertible part of that being debatable, it’s unknown whether or not we will ever see it here in the United States. Though we’ll have to wait to know for sure, it’s unlikely to come with all of the concept model’s bells and whistles, like its array of touch-sensitive surfaces or digital instrument cluster. Either way, we should expect more news about a future production model along the lines of the T-Cross Breeze sometime in the future, so be sure to stay tuned to the Neftin Volkswagen blog for the latest updates.
