2017 VW Golf SportWagen Alltrack US Release Date
To all of those who have asked for a Golf SportWagen model with all-wheel drive, Volkswagen is listening. Though the SportWagen is one of the newest models in VW’s lineup, we already have information regarding a 2017 VW Golf SportWagen Alltrack US release date, which means AWD is coming to your favorite wagon.
We last heard about the Golf SportWagen Alltrack back in March 2015. That was a long time ago, and Volkswagen has been quiet on it ever since. But recently, the European-spec Alltrack was on display at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show, confirming that the model was still on its way to the US.
What’s the difference between the Golf SportWagen and Alltrack?
As expected, the Alltrack’s AWD will be Volkswagen’s well-known 4MOTION AWD system with the latest generation Haldex-5 coupling. You will be able to drive the model just like a FWD vehicle when AWD isn’t necessary, but when wheel slipping occurs, the system will spring into action to transfer up to 50 percent of the drive torque behind you to the rear wheels. The system can also brake a wheel that is slipping to allow for a better power transfer to the wheel on the opposite side of the vehicle.
Apart from the Alltrack’s higher ground clearance, the other differences we know about so far between the two models are in design. Though images shown of the Alltrack are for the European model, we would expect some of the same design features to carry over into the model for the United States, such as wheelarch moldings, flared side sills, new bumper designs and changes to the interior.
